Rafting & Swimming at Drini i Zi river day tour from Tirana / Durres

Your day begins early in Tirana, departing around 7:30 AM to make the most of the adventure ahead. You’ll head northeast via the Rruga e Arbrit, a scenic and modern route that cuts through the mountains, connecting Tirana to the Dibra region. The road itself is part of the experience, offering breathtaking views of rugged peaks and winding valleys as you pass through towns like Klos, Bulqizë, and Burrel. The drive to the Drini i Zi area, near Kukës, takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Arriving around 9:00 AM, you’ll meet your rafting guides at the designated launch point along the Black Drin River (Drini i Zi). After a safety briefing and getting equipped with your helmet, life vest, and paddle, your guides will walk you through the basics of rafting technique and river safety. By 9:30 AM, you’ll be on the water, gliding through a stunning landscape of forested riverbanks, narrow gorges, and turquoise waters. The river offers Class II-III rapids, which means a moderate level of challenge—perfect for both beginners and those with some experience. The rafting portion typically lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours.

Once the rafting concludes, and after a quick change into dry clothes, you’ll continue the journey directly to historic Ottoman bridge. Leaving the river area around 12:00 PM, you’ll drive approximately 1 hour to reach this historic landmark. The route takes you through remote, mountainous terrain with little traffic and dramatic views, leading to a serene, hidden gorge where the bridge stands.

You’ll arrive here by 1:00 PM. The bridge is an Ottoman-era stone structure spanning the Mat River in a narrow, dramatic canyon. Steeped in legend, it is said to be named after a young woman who was sacrificed during its construction to ensure its stability. You’ll have time to explore the area, walk across the bridge, take photos, and enjoy the quiet natural surroundings. It’s a short but meaningful visit, combining architecture, folklore, and untouched nature.

After spending about an hour at the site, you’ll begin the return trip to Tirana around 2:30 PM, once again following the Rruga e Arbrit back through the mountains. The return drive takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and conditions, bringing you back to Tirana by approximately 4:30 PM.
