Visit both the city of the national hero of Scanderbeg, Kruja, and Bovilla Lake with its astonishing panoramic view.
Explore the secrets of Kruja city, for instance, one of the most famous in Albanian History, for its importance as a stronghold during the Ottoman Invasion. The walkthrough of its amazing history and the combination with its stunning traditional bazaar is one of the best things to do in Kruja for completing the full scenery of the remarkable city.
Our next destination on this tour would be Bovilla Lake, in one of the most picturesque areas where the deep blue of the lake is mixed with the grey of the rocks and green of the Flora around the area. Located around 15 Kilometres from Tirana, this artificial Lake is one of the main suppliers of drinkable water in Tirana. With a spectacular surrounding arena, the terrain is compounded also by 4 areas of fauna and vegetation.

Tour Details

Famous for its unique Medieval History, traditions, and religious tolerance, Kruja is for instance one of the cities with the brightest past in Albania. Starting from the XI century it has always been a stronghold in countless wars. In addition, this day tour brings the best values of Kruja’s unique Old Bazaar, famous castle, and one of the holiest places in the country, the “Sari Salltik” cave, a center of Sufii ‘s from the 13th century.

Our second stop will be Bovilla Lake, located 20 Km from Tirana, leaving behind the historical city of Kruja. The first part of the tour will be reaching the lake in an approximately a 1-hour drive from the city. Created as an artificial Lake it is today one of the most visited tourist destinations around Tirana with countless opportunities of physical activities, like hiking, mountain biking, etc.

What to Expect

The first visit will be Kruja city Tour walking in the Old Bazar with its unique Medieval Style that has survived the centuries, exploring the castle and finally a visit in the Historical Museum Of Scanderbeg.

Our second visit throughout this Day Tour will be Bovilla Lake. A little hike in the nature to get to the “Balcony” where we will have a stunning panoramic view of Bovilla Lake from an eagle-eye view.

Itinerary

First Visit Kruja City Tour

Be ready to leave Tirana at 8:00 and in less than 1-hour drive we will reach the City of Kruja. The first stop will be, the Traditional Bazaar of Kruja. It resembles an old carnival where friendly locals invite you to have a look in their handicrafts. It is a vibrant mosaic of traditional motives, colors and warm hospitality. We will be welcomed in a local family Bar for a short break where we will have the chance to see how the locals had made their life in years.

We will make our way uphill, toward the Castle of Kruja. It is the Stronghold Symbol of the Albanian Resistance during the Ottoman Invasion. The 25 years war was successfully lead by the Albanian National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu. The same castle has been the center of the first Albanian state, “Principata e Arberit”, since the XII Century.
In our tour to the castle, we will be able to visit some of the Bektashi Tekke, Turkish Hamman, and the Museum of Scanderbeg. Dedicated to the glorious figure of Skanderbeg, this museum sends us back in history and through historic dates and facts, we will try to understand the importance of his figure. Build in the Albanian Communist Days this museum is also influenced and indoctrinated by the dictated style of the Communist Party.

Second Visit Bovilla Lake

After the historical city of Kruja, we will enjoy some nature in Bovilla Lake. We will start our second visit with a short hike that starts from the Lake level until the panoramic point also called “The Balcony” where through some steps we get to a point where the view is stunning.

Lunch in Bovilla Lake and then return to Tirana.
