We will experience a very interesting evolution from the ethnic Albanian tribes to the greek, roman society to an episcopal community with an early Christian Basilica and fantastic baptistery.
The importance of the city is often described in the Roman philosopher Cicero books. He was also a resident of the city and his villa was not far from the city.
Furthermore, Butrint is not only an exceptional testimonial of History. The surrounding area has not changed much. Minor changes have been made and this adds value to the overall experience during the visit.

Wondering through the antiques and handmade products in the Bazaar we will make our you toward the Castle of Gjirokaster. Build centuries ago, and later restored at the beginning of the 19th century, this Castle held remarkable values. It has been the earliest foundation of life in the city. Decorated nicely also with an epic legend behind it is decently a Must Visit attraction while in Gjirokaster.
After the castle exploration, we will head down to the city. In addition, we will pass through the “Palorto Neighborhood”. It is probably the most well-known part of the city because of the 2 notable persons. Not far from each other are situated in the house of Enver Hoxha and Ismail Kadare. The first is known as the post-WWII, communist dictator and the second as the most translated Albanian Writer, candidate for Nobel.
Leaving behind the stone city, we will head back to Tirana. It will be a comfortable, 3 hours journey with stops in between.
I had a wonderful time in Albania! The sights and the scenery were terrific. Butrint was spectacular, Gjirokaster was extremely interesting. My guide Andi was absolutely fantastic. He is very well educated and speaks fluent English. He also has a wealth of knowledge about Albania, its interesting history, and answered all of my questions! He is also a very friendly guy and very comfortable to be around. Also to note, Skerdi the driver was very patient , polite and welcoming. I would highly recommend Andi and his driver Skerdi for anybody traveling to Albania.
