Tour Details

A day tour in the heart of the Albanian Alps to discover the beauty of Theth. There will be a good amount of driving along the tour with many stops and easy hikes to the Waterfall and the Blue Eye of Theth.

Overall there are about 4 hours of hiking, with stops and visits of both sights. The tour will also cover the historical, and cultural image of Theth and explain the story behind the “Lock-in Tower”.

What to Expect

Fully guided day tour of Theth from Tirana and Durres

Be prepared for an active day in the North of the country, filled with amazing views and plenty of local history. Even though Theth is mostly a hiker’s paradise this tour is accessible by everyone with a normal fitness and without hiking experience. The tour is based around three main spots, of which two are monuments of nature and one monument of culture protected by Albanian law.

Visit of Theth and the Waterfall of Grunas, an all year active waterfall
Easy level hiking around Theth, wandering along houses and the paths inbetween them
Blue Eye natural spring, probably the most scenic, almost magical part of the trip
Catholic Church of Theth, as a very important cultural and spiritual part of the village
Lock-in Tower - Get to know in depth the history of the blood feuds

The Water Situation

Along the trip, we will have access to fresh spring water. If you know from the past that you have a sensitive stomach we recommend bringing bottled water to avoid any upset stomach symptoms. If you have a history of that, bringing some medicine might come in handy.

Feel free to ask the guide where you can buy bottled water.

Day tour of Theth and Blue Eye from Tirana and Durres

Heading to Theth

Leaving Tirana at 8:00 we will head towards Theth, situated 178 Km from Tirana, also known as ” The Village of renewable beauty”. A full day at Theth will give you the chance to explore the magnificent nature of one of the most visited Natural Parks in Albania. Located in the Northern stretch, the village of Theth lies in a deep valley surrounded by rocky, imposing mountains. We will also visit the beautiful Gurnas waterfall which is located around 45 min from the center of the village.

Diving into Theth

After visiting the Gurnas waterfall we will have the chance to take a look at the Catholic Church of Theth and the Lock-in Tower. With more than four centuries of history, this building is the symbol of settling down the blood feuds in Albania.

Blue Eye

Situated around 10 km from the center of Theth, this natural water pool is the highlight of the tour. With a depth of 5 m and icy waters (5°C), the Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of rock by the water that descends from the mountains.

After the visit of the Blue Eye we will head back to Tirana for the end of our tour.
